James City County Foster Children I believe it is important to 'give back' to the community that provides so much for us, if we all took just a few hours a week to donate our time or resources to those less fortunate than ourselves, we would live in a better place. For me, it is all about the children and their well being which is how I became involved in the Foster Child program. As adoptive/foster parents, we became involved with the James City County Social Services Department in 2007 and although we are a relatively small county there is still a considerable number of children who are removed from their homes and put into foster care each year. These children are usually taken from their homes without notice and without personal possessions. My husband and I were going through the training sessions to become foster/adoptive parents and some of the stories told about these children were heartbreaking. As it was coming closer to the winter holiday season and I was fortunate enough to be able to give my children a wonderful Christmas, I thought it would be a great idea to do the same for the foster children who were not so fortunate. Social Services provided us with a list of all children in foster care under the age of 18 years old together with their 'wish list', myself and all the Real Estate Agents and staff at Coldwell Banker Traditions "adopted" a foster child and became their Christmas Angel. We all had a lot of fun buying gifts for the unknown children and felt very good about the fact that we were giving something to a child who was in need. 2010 will be our fourth year of being "Christmas Angels" and we remain dedicated to providing the foster children with a wonderful surprise at Christmas which will hopefully put a smile on their faces. If you would like to participate in our Christmas Angel Program, please call me, we would all appreciate your support.
